The Inn at Canaan

Needs a sofa or chair. Only chair was a rolling office chair. Also needs a dehumidifier. Otherwise room was very nice and well appointed. Bathroom was very nice. Maybe a little better continental breakfast. A little bit earlier check in would also be nice. Otherwise service & facility was outstanding. Location was superb & beautiful.

Rooms are updated and comfortable. Nice bedding, good amenities with newer fridge and microwave. Great alternative spot to the state park lodges and a much better price point. Free continental breakfast in the morning with limited, but decent options. Bed was comfortable with good pillows. Only minor drawback is a lack of shelving in the shower for shampoo bottles or soap. The location is pretty central to all the activities in Canaan Valley. Right off Cortland Road so you can go explore the national wildlife refuge. 10 minute drive to Canaan Valley State Park and all three ski areas. 20 minutes to Davis and Blackwater Falls and shopping and restaurants. There is a general store and Subway across the street and they have a pretty nice putt putt course on site weather permitting. I took off one star for the noise level. As many other reviews have stated the walls are paper thin and you will hear everything in the motel. You can hear conversations from across the hallway even when people have their door closed and if the place is fully booked it gets very noisy. I would check to see how full the place is if you want to book there, it's probably really nice in the summer or offseason, but if it's busy during ski season you will have to deal with the noise level.

Rooms were clean and priced well. No service until the 3rd day though which was not disclosed to us at check in. The jacuzzi is on the website and no longer part of this property. The one washer and dryer are used for housekeeping and very rarely available. There is not an elevator so if needed ask for the 1st floor. Lots of parking. Breakfast was ok but all carbs only. The place was quiet and clean. Would stay here again.

The rooms were nice and clean and spacious. The beds and pillows are nice and firm. Had a very good night sleep. The staff was also very friendly and nice. We plan on going back again next year.

We broke down this weekend and we were stranded without transportation. The hotel staff was very warm, helpful and kind to two stranded ladies. They went above and beyond to help us figure out what to do about our car, where to eat, and how to get help. Unfortunately we had to check out because the hotel was full and the only place we could book was 8 miles away in Davis. Stranded without a car we were desperate, but the manager of the hotel Danyelle came to our rescue, not only did she drive us to the new hotel but provided us with water and a snack bag. This is a wonderful hotel, the rooms are very nice, it is in a great location and everyone we encountered who works there went above and beyond to help us. I can't recommend this place highly enough (plus they have fabulous Halloween decorations)

I've stayed here for over 10 years; this experience wasn't the best. The specific room has no fridge and was missing a shower shelf. Breakfast was minimal. The second floor was loud and we didn't sleep well. While the location is great, and price is right, next time I'll check with staff to confirm the room amenities are as advertised.

On the night of Monday November 10th I was beginning a cross country move, I had a very late start to my journey and it was dark before long. The snow began to start right as I passed into Monongahela state forest and got very bad very quick. You can imagine how perilous driving in the mountains, in the dark, in a snow storm was. Fortunately, I came across the Inn at Canaan and made it just in time as I caught the person who worked the front desk turning in for the night, naturally assuming that no one would be coming in. She was incredibly kind in allowing me to rent a room for the night to wait out the snowstorm, and I truly believe that her kindness saved the life of me and my pets. Thank you.

I enjoyed my stay here. The rooms were not huge, but very clean well appointed. The staff was friendly. I didn't play golf, but I did build a fire in the fire-pit and had a quite lovely evening sitting just chilling next to the fire and talking. That was quite cool And, they even provided firewood. A lot of places charge 6 or 8 bucks for a little bundle of wood. They had big piles of it. I thought that was awesome. Very nice place and I would highly recommend. What you read about the noise between the floors is true, but it wasn't a major inconvenience. But, that's pretty much the only reason for only 4 stars.
